Estimating Mulch Beds

When you’re buying mulch for a property for the first time it’s difficult to eyeball how much you need. Since you have to start somewhere the most effective way is to take some measurements and then do a little math (but don’t be scared). The document below will show you how it’s done. After laying mulch the first year you may find that you need to tweak the numbers a bit if you want it thicker, thinner, or is you add some areas.

To give a reference, a yard of mulch will cover an area roughly 10’x10′ to a depth of 3″. If you’re more of a visual person, the average pickup truck will hold two-ish yards. How much does a yard covers? That depends on the depth. As previously mentioned, one yard will cover 100 square feet to a depth of three inches, or 300 square feet to a depth of about one inch.

Once you’ve figured out how much you need let us know and we can bring the mulch for you to install! We can also install it for you with our blower truck, subject to minimums.
